About C2PA Content Credentials
The Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) publishes a technical standard for attaching cryptographically signed, tamper-evident provenance metadata to digital content. A credential may describe the tool, timestamp, origin, or edit history, but the available details vary by file.
🔍 Platform support changes over time
OpenAI's current guidance says images generated with ChatGPT, Codex, and its API include C2PA metadata. Screenshots and downstream processing can remove that metadata.
For broader, current ecosystem support, consult the official C2PA Conformance Explorer and each product's documentation instead of relying on a fixed vendor list.
Important: Finding a credential does not prove that every claim in it is true. Not finding one does not prove how the content was created or whether it is authentic.
This client-side inspector reports the provenance metadata a file exposes. It does not independently verify creator identity or establish that content is authentic.
